Marilyn with 3 former students who became her backing singers in the 11-piece soul band “Mama M”. All 3 are now at university and 2 of them are studying for performing arts degrees.
In 1975/6, Marilyn studied singing and coaching technique under American operatic coach and composer Doug Susu-mago. She has since combined what she learnt then with elements of the “Alexander Technique” and with the methods of well known singing teachers such as Jeannie Diva and Brett Manning.
She has learnt over the years that “tone deafness” is so rare that it deserves little more than the status of myth. She believes that “everyone can sing and everybody should”.
Marilyn has a profound understanding of musculature and anatomy relevant to singing and, combined with the richly varied nature of her studies and experience, is able to develop unique programmes of learning tailored to each individual student and to every sort of music and performance.
